Frequent Questions

Implants

How do they differ from Bridges and Dentures?

They are permanent, hard wearing and do not require the neighbouring teeth to take the biting forces or be drilled at all.

It is a straightforward in-house appointment to place them and patients are amazed at how comfortable they are (far easier than when they had the tooth extracted!)

What are Implants?

Implants are sometimes referred to as Screw-in Teeth by patients. They are made of the purest Titanium (sometimes Zirconium) and used to replace missing teeth

Holistic treatment

Do you use Mercury Amalgam fillings?

We are a Mercury Free Practice and always try to use the most Bio-Compatible materials available.

How can dentistry effect the rest of my health?

Good oral health and a great smile gives you fresh breath and confidence in everyday life. Research shows that 'gum disease' increases you risk of heart disease, diabetes, low birth weight babies and more!

What symptoms can you treat other than my oral ones?

We are interested in a holistic view of you as a patient, so if you are feeling some symptoms that are not dentally related we may be able to advise on other areas of your health like Nutrition, Diet, Posture, Podiatry, Joint Health, especially TMJ (Jaw Joint), Airway, Snoring and Sleep Apnoea to name a few.

Snoring

What are the risks of Sleep Apnoea?

We do need to be sure there is no Sleep Apnoea (actually snoring to the point of stopping breathing) as in severe cases this can significantly increase your risk of Heart disease. We have a simple pulse oximeter night test to see if a full Sleep Test is required.

What options are there?

Many products are available over the counter but so far the research shows that the most effective anti-snoring device is a simple dental appliance to hold the lower jaw forward at night.

Cosmetic

Is there any risk?

Bleaching and Orthodontics are the best options as it involves no tooth damage. Veneers and Crowns do require some tooth preparation.

What options are there?

If your teeth are a good shape and in line but have a dark colour then Bleaching can whiten them significantly. If they are just crowded then Braces or Invisible Braces can straighten and align them. If they are heavily filled and discoloured then they can be veneered or crowned (capped) to give you that smile you have always wanted...
