Sleep Apnoea & Snoring

These conditions are not just socially undesirable but can also be life threatening.

Sleep apnoea is when the patient wakes up with a shortage of air having not breathed for a period of time, often in a panic. This causes interrupted sleep and the patient will often feel extremely tired and may even catnap during the day. The lack of oxygen received during sleep can cause headaches and lethargy. Research shows that it can increase your risk of having a heart attack by 25 percent.

In severe cases we would ask a sleep clinic to do a sleep test first to diagnose the disorder and then we would make a simple night time Oral Appliance which would hold the patients lower jaw forward and improve the airway. Not only does this help reduce snoring and can eliminate sleep apnoea but it can also make the patient feel fully refreshed on waking and perform better during the day.
